  • What Is Distance Learning, And How Can It Help You Towards Your Degree?

Technology can be intimidating, especially when you weren’t born into a generation that can do everything on a touch screen. Technology can also be a wonderful tool you can use to accomplish your goals. If one of your goals includes earning your degree or going back to school for a complete career change, one of the most important technologies you should be researching is distance learning. For most adult learners, the luxury of attending a physical classroom just isn’t possible when factoring in commuting to and from class, family, work, and unexpected fees and college costs. A more feasible option would be courses that are self-paced, available on your own time, and allow you to study and test when you’re ready. That is the perfect recipe for distance learning. Throw in academic support from a real person and a success guarantee and you have Rue Education.

What exactly is distance learning and what does it mean for you? Simply put by jobinterviewtools.com, distance learning is “learning that involves the educator and pupils being separated by distance, time, or both.” More important than the concept of learning from a distance is the methods by which it can be done. In the past, distance learning was accomplished through postal mail. Students would receive their coursework in the mail and send their completed assignments back in the same way. Eventually courses were delivered through radio and TV. Fast forward to today and radios and TVs have been replaced by monitors and iPads, and snail mail has been replaced by email. Advances in technology have brought the means to bring courses to you, 24/7. According to jobinterviewtools.com’s article, other benefits include “those with busy schedules can improve their education in their spare time instead of dealing with the stresses of trying to fit class schedules into their lives. Costs are usually lower than traditional programs as well.” Using a computer is similar to having a binder or trapper keeper. All your lessons and coursework are organized for you in one place. Everyone is on different levels of computer and technology fluency. That’s why at Rue Education we have friendly academic supporters there for you to answer any questions and help you from start to finish. If you’ve been thinking of a return to school or earning your degree, consider if distance learning could be the right fit for your needs. For over 20 years Rue Education has helped nearly 100,000 adult learners earn credit towards their nursing degree.

Don’t Miss Out On Your 2010 Tuition Assistance!

As we approach the end of 2010, we would like to remind you to take advantage of any tuition assistance eligibility or reimbursement provided by your employer.  Most companies have a ‘use it or lose it’ policy.  If your employer provides tuition assistance or some form of reimbursement, we encourage you to explore this option before time runs out.  Seeking and receiving financial support from your employer can help offset your monthly payments and testing fees.

  • Food for Thought, Defeating Breast Cancer Early

Cancer can strike anyone at any time. It doesn’t call first to see if it can come over and it certainly doesn’t ring the doorbell when it shows up unexpectedly at your door. Everyone knows someone with or who has had cancer at one point in their life. There are no six degrees of separation when it comes to knowing someone with cancer. It could be you or your friends or someone who you love.

According to BreastCancer.org, ticking to a low-fat diet may help reduce the risk of breast cancer coming back. One study in which women received only about 25% of their daily calories from fat found a lower risk of recurrence, mostly in women with a prior estrogen-receptor-negative breast cancer. Here’s a list of food items and ideas that you can incorporate into your diet in order to help reduce the risk of getting breast cancer.

    •          Turmeric, Rosemary, Parsley, Thyme
    •          Green tea
    •          Maintain a body that is not highly acidic, this is associated with the type of food you eat and baking soda can assist in balancing
    •          Green veggies like kale, broccoli and even cabbage
    •          Use of cold pressed oils containing omega-3 (like flaxseed, fish oil and olive oil)
    •          Eating a diet high in fruit and vegetables

In order to obtain the maximum benefit,  these items should be grown organically and cooked with little with to no heat. There are so many uncontrollable factors that drive the risk of getting breast cancer. Family history, age, a genetic pre-disposition to cancers are among a few but the above listed are lifestyle changes that you can make NOW to potentially tip the scale in your favor. Remember, there are many kinds of studies out there relating to reducing your risk to breast and other cancers. They can all be a bit confusing. The key is to simply take care of yourself and get regular checkups for early detection.
