The Faces of Rue – Karen Brickey
Karen is a valuable member of the team of advisors you will interact with at Rue as you further your education. She has been an Academic Advisor with Rue since 2006 and brings diverse experiences to her role in Academic Services. Karen has many years of experience in support services, and her background includes participation in both medical and business professional development. In addition to her knowledge and expertise in student support, Karen is also an active volunteer with hospice services and the American Cancer Society.
Karen believes that the most important aspect of her role at Rue is helping students achieve their goals. She is skilled at assessing student’s needs and providing the necessary guidance to achieve success, whether that be a reassuring ear to listen, or advice on the next steps to take in the program. Karen feels it is critical to provide support and resources to nurses as they advance within their field and understands the importance of helping to alleviate the nursing shortage in this country.
When Karen isn’t encouraging and supporting students, she is busy chasing around her active four-year-old son. Along with participating in various volunteer and church activities, Karen is an avid movie watcher. One of her favorite films is Point Break, and along with many of us, she’s a big fan of Keanu Reeves. In addition to movies, she enjoys hiking, bicycling, going to the beach, and spending time with her husband and son. One of her trademark lines you may hear when you speak to her is, “Keep your eye on the prize.” Karen certainly follows her own advice in her work and personal life, and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of nurses.
